Living Colour, Opinions on Blur & Claud
In the largely white landscape of ‘80s and ‘90s rock, Living Colour stood out with their electrifying riffs, genre blending sound and political lyrics. Decades later, professor and author Kimberly Mack talks with hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot about her recent book on Living Colour’s impact on rock music and culture as a whole. The hosts also review new albums from Blur and Claud.
The Ballad of Darren Blur
Blur surprised even their biggest fans by releasing a new album in 2023. “The Ballad of Darren” is the Britpop band's ninth studio album.
Supermodels Claud
Claud is a bedroom pop artist who has an impressive list of tour mates: Phoebe Bridgers, Paramore and Le Tigre, among others. On their second album, “Supermodels,” they step into the spotlight, commanding the stage with confident arrangements and production and songwriting that nails the in-between state of one's early twenties.
Living Colour Time’s Up
Living Colour are a hard rock band formed in 1984 by guitarist Vernon Reid. In 1988 they had their biggest hit with “Cult of Personality,” but author Kimberly Mack argues that their finest moment was their second album, “Time’s Up,” released in 1990. Hosts Jim and Greg talk with Mack about her new book about that album.

Dear Listeners,
For more than 15 years, Sound Opinions was a production of WBEZ, Chicago's public radio station. Now that the show is independent, we're inviting you to join the band and lend a hand! We need your support more than ever because now we have to do all the behind-the-scenes work that WBEZ handled before (like buying insurance and paying for podcast hosting, ugh). Plus, we have some exciting ideas we'd like to try now that there's no one to tell us no!
